DAY #3 {Tuesday 20th}

We drove and we drove and we drove some more.. all night and most of the day.

Then we were in the tropics

*n.b: the tropics in Aus smell a little like Thailand less the stinky sewer smell.

 We saw some big things (the banana Boy was particularly interested in..)

 Finally we arrived at our destination. Wooyung Holiday Park (only about an hour outside of QLD)

We had crossed the entire state of NSW in one HUGE effort..

We took a much needed afternoon to reset, rest and play.

 We saw our first tropical sized lizard & found a cicada skin..thing?

and had our first dinner on the new camp oven.

It seemed like our holiday was really beginning to start. (well the relaxing bit anyway)

Day #2 {Monday 19th}

After our first night we picked up some MUCH needed essentials from your friendly local IGA before heading off to Eden (2 hrs away)

In no time at all we were in NSW

Then we were in Eden. 

We purchased THE most expensive box of nutri grain from a Matilda Servo & headed off to the killer whale museum.

Where we learnt about the special relationship between the killer whales and the whalers in the area.

The killer whales would help round up the whales for the whalers to kill and in return the whalers would let them eat the tongue of the dead whale before hauling it in.

Apparently whale tongue is a killer whale delicacy..

When you have children you never have any time to yourself...even when going to the loo. I think by this time, Boy and I had started to become quite the connoisseurs of public toilets.

Afterwards we drove to Bega.

    We ate astronomical amounts of free cheese.. bought a grater to 

    ease our guilt and ate lunch as a picnic with a Mummy Magpie.

    
    

    Our next stop was 18 hours away, we decided to drop in on 

    Kyle's brother in Stanwell Park to break the trip up a little (ETA 

    10 pm)

    
    

    On the way to Stanwell park we hit a massive rain storm, it was 

    so bad we had to pull over because we couldn't see.

    
    

    As we were driving off, after the rain had dissipated slightly

     there was a massive thud on the roof of the car. I thought a 

    branch had dropped down or that it had been a hail ball. 

    
    

    When we pulled up at the next service station- Kyle was filling 

    up the car and decided to check if it had done any damage.

    
    

    It was then that he saw a tiny bat, wings caught up in the roof 

    racks.

    
    

    So our first road kill of the trip was a small bat... technically 

    it hit us.

    After a quick visit with Ryan we were off again, next stop

Day #1 { SUNDAy 18th DEC }

After the wedding of the century we headed off to Cairns on our once in a lifetime (never do it again ever) road trip. We decided to go the coastal way... all they way up.

 (48 hours worth of driving actually)

To kick off the trip we took the Queenscliff to Sorrento ferry.

It was a bit rainy, but the ride was only about 30 mins. We have never been on it.. to be honest it wasn't that exciting and the food was a little pricey (and not very nice) but it was a good way to kick off our adventure as the "official" start.

When we got to Sorrento we drove to visit Steph and Whitty in Rosebud -  (sorry forgot to get  a pic!)

They have just started renovating their own place, it was so nice to visit some friendly faces. A perfect start to our holiday!

Then it was off to Marlo where we were camping the night. (5 hrs away)

We were suppose to get into Marlo about 5 pm but the whole morning just ran away from us when we were packing and we ended up arriving at a sneaky 8.00 pmish.

I liked the idea that it didn't really matter what time we got in because there was no check-in!

On the way we grabbed some vegetarian pizza, yummm... Can't remember where we got it from but we were so hungry anything would've tasted good..

In the morning I got Kyle to take piccies off the set up, I made bug proof window coverings so we could have a little cross ventilation. We had the bubble on the car for storage, the tent at the back held all our "stuff" and we slept on custom cut foam in the back of the car (the seats fold down)

 Boy slept on his custom made (by me) hammock, which sat snugly between the dash and front seats.

 I also made a little divider so he couldn't see us..

The first night was a success for Boy.

Didn't at all make him crazy... ok maybe a little crazy -- perhaps he knew what was still to come..
